Embarking on IVF
Clinical trials with acupuncture and herbal medical interventions have demonstrated increased blood supply to the uterus and ovaries. Acupuncture regulates hormones that improve follicular development and implantation. There is a significant increase in pregnancy rates reported in these trials.
Acupuncture is recommended the day before embryo transfer (including frozen embryo transfer). Many IVF patients find they benefit from having acupuncture before the IVF stimulation phase and having treatment before and after the day of embryo transfer helps to keep patients as relaxed and receptive as possible.
Acupuncture after egg collection
IVF patients are recommended to have an acupuncture treatment in the days after egg collection, to reduce any local tissue trauma or bleeding, and help prepare the body for the arrival of an embryo.
Acupuncture before the pregnancy test
Embryos that have been frozen and successfully thawed are transferred back into a uterus in its natural state at exactly the right time for implantation. Using electro-stimulation on acupuncture points on the abdomen in the 2 or 3 menstrual cycles before the transfer has been demonstrated in one trial to improve the structure of the uterine lining, and implantation rate and enhance a positive pregnancy.
